A new hospitality advisory board will lobby government ministers to introduce carbon footprint reduction incentives that could lead to savings for the industry.
The British Hospitality Association has partnered with cost reduction and purchase management organisation Businesswise Solutions and industry figureheads to launch the board.
Members will meet quarterly to discuss energy concerns, challenges and cost saving tactics, with tax breaks and rewards for meeting carbon reduction targets top of the agenda.
Frazer Durris of Businesswise Solutions commented: “There are few schemes in place to incentivise the industry to reduce their carbon footprint.
“The sector needs government support to release hundreds of millions back in to the industry and make a major impact on the carbon reduction targets. It would benefit both the industry and help the government meet their targets.”
The board has also agreed that a centralised bank of information should be created for hospitality operators to share best practices and case studies.
